"HOW TO WRITE BOOKS, AND SURVIVE!" by Eric Hemming Nelson

Author: Eric Hemming Nelson
Mini-Biography

Ex-journalist Eric Nelson has been a writer for more than 30 years. He has been a newspaper man, human interest writer, travel writer, humor writer, book writer and obituary writer, although not his own, yet. In that time one should have their priorities nailed down.

Nelson goes to church. He is a romantic. He writes about romance, because men are interested in romance too. The world would not get very far otherwise. He will love his future wife when she arrives. He does love his family, his friends, big people, little people, his country Canada, books, writing, motorcycles, funny things and dogs.

A fairly recent dog story comes from a zoo in China. Disgraced staff said they could not afford a real lion so they disguised a large Tibetan mastiff dog as an ‘African Lion.’ However, the plot unraveled when ‘outraged’ visitors reported the animal refused to roar, and barked only. The visitors were outraged? Good grief! What about the poor dog? And sometimes we think we suffer indignities.

Fifteen books have been expectorated from the old Underwood Touchmaster Five typewriter, now mutated into a computer. They include a true-crime (and love / romance) story, a couple of creative love ‘epics’ (one alleged to be funny), a long, true love story involving pain and almost everything else, an adventure (and love) thriller, a couple of true motorcycle yarns, other miscellaneous books, and a biography of wonderful dog friend ‘Beethoven’.

Beethoven was the intelligent, loveable, sheep-dog-Airedale cross the writer and his family found in Mexico long before the well-known Hollywood ‘Beethoven.’ That Beethoven came later, the pretender St. Bernard movie-character with the suspected purloined name, who a particular ex-journalist would belittle if he did not love all dogs so much -- especially big dogs.

Many of Nelson’s books can be found on two sites: prodigallovers.com and zebrabooks.ca. Eventually, other books will be available at these sites too – books by writer friends, and other frustrated and maybe self-published authors and, later, established authors from recognized publishing houses.

What is the purpose of life? Why are we here? Isn’t that something every writer should try to plumb, for the ‘enlightenment’ of man? How about this? The purpose of man (and woman) is to love and know the Creator (a.k.a. God), and to enjoy Him forever. That involves loving one’s fellow man (and woman), and to have as much fun doing it as possible. Many have discovered that one good way is reading.
